A pretty easy recipe for a delicious, spicy, cheesy, sandwich. I recommend only eating this once in a while or you may clog up your arteries.
Ingredients (serves 2)
Sourdough bread Jalapeno (2) Whipped cream cheese (2 tbs) Colby Jack cheese (2 slices) Black Forest Ham (5 slices) Green onions (3-4) Butter (spreadable)
Directions
The main players in the sandwich. I like to use colby-jack cheese, black forest ham, whipped cream cheese and extra sour dough bread. This can all be changed however to your liking. Different cheese, meat, and bread is all okay. Stick with the whipped cream cheese though so you can spread it better on the bread.
What makes this sandwich special. Two jalapenos and 3-4 green onion gives it a fresh and spicy taste.
First thing is to roast the jalapenos on a grill/stove top until it is charred. It usually takes just a few minutes on high heat. Make sure you turn them around every minute to get all sides evenly.
While the jalapenos are roasting, you can mince up the green onions. Mince only the white parts and just a bit of the green. Mince it up real nice as this will be mixed with the cream cheese. Then add about 2-3 tablespoons of cream cheese in a bowl and add the green onions to it and mix it all up!
Once you're happy with the roasting, use tongs to move the jalapenos to a foil and wrap it all up. The foil helps to retain the heat inside and helps cook the jalapenos further on the inside, think of a makeshift oven. Leave it inside the foil for about 5 minutes.
Open up the foil and the jalapenos should be done with it's sauna. We want to get rid of the charred skin so run it under cool water and rub off the outside layer. It should come off relatively easy but some parts may still stick. You'll have to peel it off if needed. Cut the stem and tip and discard. Then cut it lengthwise to open it up and you'll see all of it's babies. By babies, I mean seeds and we need to get rid of them all. Basically de-seed it by just using your fingers and pulling them off. The result should look like the pepper all the way on the right.
Time to assemble the sandwich. First is to spread the cream cheese/green onion mixture. Don't be scared to use it all up.
Next spread the jalapenos so it covers most the bread. I like to place the ham lengthwise like the picture because I will be cutting it down the middle later. Last place the 2 pieces of cheese over the ham.
Spread some butter on both the outsides of the bread and place it in the toaster oven. The setting should be 400 F for 15 minutes or if you have a fancy toaster oven, set it on "sandwich" mode or equivalent. Remember to flip it around halfway through to cook both sides evenly.
Cut the sandwich in half and get ready for the most tasty and spicy sandwich you've ever had! The buttery bread should crunch, while the insides be a melty cheesy galore!
